Mission Statement
As the only position, after the Pastor, specifically identified in the Bible, the Deacon Ministry is charged with caring for the physical needs of the Zion membership so that Pastor Peace can concentrate on the spiritual needs of Zion membership. Viewed as servant leaders, the Deacon Ministry is responsible for assisting the Pastor, supporting corporate (group) worship, ensuring and assisting Pastor Peace with the monthly Communion and Baptism ordinances, and assisting the elderly, sick, shut-in, and poor. Collectively and individually, the Deacon Ministry is also called to be intimately knowledgeable of God's teachings in the Bible, lead outreach ministries, evangelize, pray unceasingly, and generally be a source of wisdom and strength within Zion Baptist Church. Lastly, collectively and individually, the Deacon Ministry is to be of impeccable character and keepers of the Christian faith while relying solely on the Holy Spirit.
"In the same way, deacons are to be worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be faithful to his wife and must manage his children and his household well. Those who have served well gain an excellent standing and great assurance in their faith in Christ Jesus."
